Dresden East Residents: Don't Annex Century Center into Brookhaven

In a story first reported on Patch, Century Center's owners have petitioned to become part of the city of Brookhaven.

The Dresden East Civic Association (DECA) is urging Brookhaven's city council to vote against annexing Century Center into the new city.

This past Monday night, DECA's board of directors unanimously adopted a resolution against the annexation. A copy of that resolution was sent to Brookhaven Mayor J. Max Davis and the city council on Wednesday morning.

In a story first reported on Patch, Century Center's owners have petitioned to become part of Brookhaven.

For more than a year, the Chamblee City Council has been seeking to annex the complex and the Dresden East community.
 
Below is a copy of DECA's resolution:

WHEREAS, Century Center has petitioned to annex into the City of Brookhaven,

WHEREAS, Century Center is a vital commercial property that’s part of the Dresden East/Clairmont area that will be voting on annexation into the City of Chamblee this November (2013),

WHEREAS, should Century Center annex into the City of Brookhaven, the Dresden East area will be left without a commercial tax base to support it, which will adversely affect the level of service, safety and property value in our communities,

WHEREAS, the Century Center property was specifically left out of the boundaries for the city of Brookhaven at the time of its creation in 2012,

WHEREAS, the negative impacts of Century Center annexing into Brookhaven will be felt in Chamblee, Brookhaven, Doraville and other neighborhoods bordering the Dresden East area, including all of the proposed new cities in North DeKalb.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the DECA Board of Directors asks the Brookhaven Mayor and City Council to vote against annexing Century Center into the City of Brookhaven.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the DECA Board asks elected officials in the City of Chamblee, State Representative (District 81) Scott Holcomb and State Representative (District 82) Mary Margaret Oliver to join us publically asking Brookhaven’s elected officials not to annex Century Center into their City.
