Brookhaven Residents Create 'Start Brookhaven Right' Committee
The chairperson and treasurer for the committee were former Brookhaven YES board members and have lived in the area for 15 years.
An independent commitee, named Start Brookhaven Right, Inc., recently registered its campaign on Oct. 2, according to records from the state ethics commission.
The committee chairperson is listed as Shannon Cameron, who served as a board member for Brookhaven YES and is currently the vice president of the Nancy Creek Heights Neighborhood Network. SBR's treasurer is Christopher Elsevier, who served as treasurer for Brookhaven YES and is an executive officer of The Piedmont Bank. Both are Brookhaven residents, who have lived in the area for 15 years.
In June, Brookhaven Patch published a piece Cameron wrote entitled "Cityhood Is Absolutely About the People."
The committee also gave notice of intent to incorporate on Oct. 17, according to the public notice on the Georgia Press Association's website.
Below is the official notice of intent to incorporate:
NOTICE OF INTENT TO INCORPORATE Notice is given that Articles of Incorporation which will incorporate Start Brookhaven Right, Inc. have been delivered to the Secretary of State for filing in accordance with the Georgia Nonprofit Corporation Code. The initial registered office of the corporation will be located at 340 Old York Road, Johns Creek, GA 30097 in Fulton County, and its initial registered agent at such address is Douglas Chalmers, Jr. #1966986:10/18-2-bec

Just another reason for J. Max and Ms. Rebecca to have my vote for their hope and change to our area. It will be fun watching those that worked so hard for this upcoming CF and their trials, tribulations, and WTF moments! Just where do I apply for the council meeting concessions?
An aside, I recently spoke to a couple that lived in “Brookhaven” a few years back. Once I described the area covered in incorporation the better half of the couple looked at me and said “Geographically, those areas have very little in common. Just whose harebrained idea was this?”

Interesting idea to create a group whose name implies that Brookhaven is already not starting right. By default you would think starting right would be a goal. I guess the impression so far is it is starting all wrong.
This group should have been formed in January 2011 so they could put some thought and care into the development of the idea of a city and seek actual feedback from all of the neighborhoods that wanted to be involved.
Water under the bridge now. Still quite entertaining. With all this infighting going on between neighbors and political parties, it will take a generation for it to be forgotten. Hope that all this infighting does not cause more homes to come on the market, further devaluing homes in the hopefully successful attempt to sell your house first.

WTF?
According to the Ethics Commission web site, this group has registered as an independent committee. The definition for such an animal is quoted verbatim from the Ethics site below:
"Independent Committees – Any committee, club, association, partnership, corporation, labor union, or political action committee, which receives donations during a calendar year from persons who are members or supporters of the committee and which expends such funds either for the purpose of affecting the outcome of an election for any elected office or to advocate the election or defeat of any particular candidate."
More details about what independent committees can and can't do are found here:

If any of you folks know which candidate's election results Cameron and Elsevier are trying to influence, I would like to hear it.

Or, it could be a fund set up to mount a heavy campaign for J. Max & Company the last week before the vote.
Alternatively, it could be a fund to mount a organized push for the resurrection of the county of Milton!
Regarding Milton County, I was talking to someone that evidently has an association with JD recently. She told me that police and fire as well as other services will be more affordable for all of the new cities in a county and there is a movement to recreate the county of Milton. I said if this new county movement does get off the ground Milton will go no further south than the river. Laughing heartily, this individual told me that Milton County will include Dunwoody and Brookhaven going all the way down to I-85.
Think about it. Michael Bodker has publically stated his dislike for DeKalb County during his attendance at several Brookhaven Yes meetings when they were selling their new city. With Brookhaven complete, now is the time for Rep. Mike Jacobs & Company to start selling folks on the recreation and expansion of Milton County.

This is probably just the first volley for the next nonsense, milton county.
I would bet the first step is to collect money for 'education' so that we can all 'learn' how much better off if we formed/melded a 'different' county (I'm not sure that even the OnePartyState legislature could stomach another county).
Then there could be a C4ND-like 'study committee' (with closed membership and secret donors).
Then on the 2014 ballot, somebody (the whole state under current rules) would get to decide if the county comes into being. I would wager there will be an 'emergency effort' in the General Assembly to change the rules for this nonsense.
We'll see.

I am well aware of the Jacobs/Millar/whoever desire to split off from DeKalb. Many, many changes must be made before that can happen, including constitutional ones. GA has a statutory limit on the number of counties that can exist, so THAT has to be the first thing to change. Good luck getting the state-wide bumpkins to vote for that.

Splitting Fulton County in half to recreate Milton County is possible. It existed in the past and went away. Similar to the city of North Atlanta being there and going away. It was recreated and called the city of Brookhaven.
Splitting two counties in half to create a new county out of DeKalb and Fulton is not likely to happen. So be wary of living in DeKalb and contributing funds to help your neighbors in another county. They may just promise to make you a part of it, but that is really up to the legislature to make that happen.
One county split is infinitely easier than two counties split to create one new county.
What could the name of the new county be? Well, unfortunately White county is already taken. Maybe something descriptive of the area? The county of Commuters? County of Traffic? County of StripMalls? Georgia has too many counties already, so finding a good name may be hard to do.
Should be another fun thing to watch, especially if the DeKalb cities get snookered into financing it based on the promise of inclusion.
