Brookhaven to Swear in Eight Police Supervisors

The newest officers will serve as shift supervisors and be responsible for overseeing neighborhood patrols.

Brookhaven Mayor J. Max Davis will swear in eight supervisory officers at the next city council meeting.

The Brookhaven Police Department completed hiring for all of its supervisory ranks last week. Four additional sergeants – Shameta Jones-Harrell, Eric Silveus, Christopher Shelton and Mike Whittle – all began work today. They join four other supervisory officers who started June 20.

The newest officers will serve as shift supervisors and be responsible for overseeing neighborhood patrols.

Jones-Harrell is a former SWAT team member specializing in undercover operations and has more than 13 years of experience in law enforcement supervisory roles. She holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Jacksonville State University.

Silveus joins Brookhaven’s police force from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office where he spent 15 of his 22 years in law enforcement. During his time there, Silveus implemented a bike patrol unit and a school resource officer unit in 36 schools.

Shelton brings extensive and highly specialized knowledge of traffic enforcement and accident reconstruction/investigations. He holds degrees in criminology, management and law enforcement.

Whittle served as Sergeant First Class and IT Manager for College Park’s Police Department. He has a keen understanding of IT support systems and has more than 15 years of experience in law enforcement.

“I feel confident that we have assembled a solid team of frontline supervisors that bring with them many years of experience and a variety of specialized skills,” Chief Gary Yandura said.

The chief and his command staff are still finalizing the hiring of patrol officers.

More than 50 Brookhaven officers are scheduled to begin patrols later this summer.
