Late-Night Argument Leads to Armed Robbery

The incident occurred outside the Uptown Lofts of Brookhaven on Clairmont Road early Monday morning.

An argument between two men trying break a $100 bill to buy fast food escalated into an armed robbery outside a Brookhaven apartment complex early Monday morning, DeKalb County police said.

The victim, a 28-year-old Atlanta man, told police he and the suspect, a 25-year-old Norcross man, tried to pay for a meal at McDonald's at 2881 Clairmont Road with the $100 bill but were told it was too large shortly before 3:45 a.m., according to the police report.

The two headed to the suspect's sister's nearby apartment at the Uptown Lofts of Brookhaven at 2916 Clairmont Road to break the bill. But once they reached the apartment building, the victim said he told the suspect to forget about the money and leave.

The pair began arguing, and the suspect demanded the victim leave the car, the report said. When the victim asked the suspect for his money, the suspect told him not to get close, pulled out a handgun and struck him in the left side of the face before driving off.

The victim suffered a minor cut, and police retrieved the suspect's information to charge him with armed robbery.
