ReplyHamburger, I hope you are happy with your fake address of Jacobsville (not that I believe it for a second). As for me, I just want to continue with the address I bought into forty years ago--a real one and one known world-wide. For those who don't like it, let THEM move elsewhere. All these postings, mostly saying the same thing are common knowledge and do not address my concern.

ReplyTo "Longerthanu": That just proves my point: They say they're from "Atlanta" because it's a known entity--and quite well known. However, if those from Norcross use Atlanta as their address, they won't get their mail!

cbr 1966: To answer your question from my perspective and I dare say from the perspective of many of us long-time residents of 30345. Yes, Atlanta is a more prestigious address. Ask anyone outside the state of Georgia: Which city/town name or potential name do you recognize: Tucker? Doraville? Oak Grove? Lakeside? LaVista? Briarcliff? Atlanta?? It's the latter, hands down--known world-wide.

ReplyI have heard all of that, RandyRand and Georgia--in fact from you once before, Randy. It's not a question of whether the mail will eventually be directed to my mailbox via zipcode. I know that could happen. What I'm saying is I want to see it from authority and get reassurance that the official address of this "Lakeside" and any other names selected will not be my OFFICIAL address. Johns Creek is no longer Alpharetta and Dunwoody (in spite of its 303 zip) is Dunwoody and not Atlanta. So let's have the Lakeside group get out this info about the new city's OFFICIAL address and in writing and publicly advertised if they want more donations. Again, my question is what will the new city's OFFICIAL address be?? I know I can use Savannah or Miami 30345 and get my mail but that's not my question and concern.

ReplyThere would be more contributions for the cityhood movement if there were reassurance that those in 30345 could keep their "Atlanta" addresses. I know several people who are withholding any contributions for this reason. I would consider contributing but will not for fear of my address becoming "Lakeside (substitute other names), Georgia." Such an address might as well be on the Alabama or Florida line. I and many others moved here because we would have a recognizable address. Until this is addressed, I will not support cityhood--and I would love to see this area take the first step toward separation from the DeKalb School System. It is broken beyond fixing and I say this from observation for the past 40 years and from having taught on a higher level in the county for almost that long.

ReplyWhy is he leaving? If it voluntary? Will he be transferred or is he retiring? That seems to me to be an important part of the story.

ReplyTry their new McWraps. They are healthier (chicken can be grilled or crispy) with a choice of sauce, including lower-cal sweet chili sauce, several veggies (cuke, lettuce, etc.). The wrap is so big that cutting it in half would make two small to medium-size servings. Last week for two days they were only $1 each to introduce them to the public. Now they are back to regular price (3.79, I think). So I think McDonald's is trying to do better. A McWrap and an iced, low-fat latte is not too bad for a quick lunch.

ReplyI went there once. It was a depressing atmosphere and the food was only mediocre--more Vietnamese than French--what I call "a hole in the wall." I like a little atmosphere, even if it is only clean and decorated nicely, even if inexpensively decorated. The atmosphere kept me from returning even more than the food. If one wants French, go to Violette's for lunch or dinner (on Clairmont),even if you pay a little more. Violette's daily luncheon special is delicious and inexpensive. You also won't find a more beautiful place to lunch--whether inside the main restaurant, in their sunroom, or on the patio.

ReplyTo the new owners: I suggest that you have better food and temperature control. I took out-of-town guests there last summer. The food was not good at all--bread was less than mediocre and main dishes less tasty than one could buy frozen in grocery stores. To top it off, it was unbearably hot in the restaurant. My party of seven asked repeatedly to have the air conditioning turned on. Finally we were told it was on and that was the best it could do. It felt like 90 degrees. Needless to say, I did not return to Capozzi's. I do love Italian food but will not go back to a restaurant a second time when these many things go wrong. However, with new ownership and a little advertising of the menu--AND A REPAIR OF THE HVAC SYSTEM--I could give Capozzi's another shot.

At least a partial solution: Have two doors to every entrance, making the outside door a see-through such as glass or wrought iron. When you open one door, no one can just burst through and overpower you. I have two doors on all six entrances to my home and feel okay about answering the door. Having peepholes in the doors that are your main entrance(s) will let you know whether or not you even want to talk to someone. Sad that it has come to this in a beautiful, formerly "safe" area of Atlanta, but it has. Two doors--yes, expensive--have made me and my family feel much safer. Another perk is that most petty thieves will go somewhere else if they find they must break through two doors to get into a house. To me, this has proved to be a more peace-of-mind solution than an alarm system. In lieu of an alarm system, it soon pays for itself. Special order, stronger doors are much better than the ones you see for sale immediately at Lowe's or Home Depot.
