ReplyThat's wonderful; he's one of the few Georgia statesmen with a mind that thinks further ahead than the next soundbite.

ReplyForgot to mention that this morning, we bought our coffee beans from Stone Mountain Coffee Roasters in Stone Mountain Village, owned and run by Barbara Collins. She is a local treasure.

ReplySmall businesses are the bread and butter of America. They need our support all year long. Shopping local not only helps your local business owner and employees, but often your local banks, as well. Buying local produce and eating at local restaurants promotes sustainability and decreases our dependence on foreign oil, used in the transport of produce over long distances.
In the Tucker area, we regularly enjoy dining at Taqueria Oaxaquena Guelaguetza and L'Thai off Lawrenceville Highway, Matthews Cafeteria off Main Street, Taqueria Los Hermanos off Hugh Howell by Publix, and The Village Corner German Restaurant and Bakery off Ponce in Stone Mountain. There are many more local places yet to be discovered. -

ReplyWhat a great story! I have to say that I'm very impressed by the water-skiing; that's not an especially easy form of recreation.

On the Blog Post Confessions of a Former Gym Rat

ReplyIt's more difficult to find a happy medium. Last year I'd joined a gym by the office and went swimming daily for 45 minutes of laps at lunch. Around Thanksgiving and through the following March, I'd quit and gained back 20 of the 30 pounds I'd lost.
This year, instead of joining the gym, I'm keeping it simple and cheap by using my work breaks for walking around the office park, which gets me away from my desk and perks me up. Add that with old-fashioned calisthenics of push-ups and crunches, and I'm slowly shedding that weight again. I still eat out and splurge on weekends, so I get it comes down to not being perfect, just moderating those extra good not-so-good-for-you foods we like to indulge in.

And shore more of the burden on the lower and middle class, while reducing the taxes overall for the wealthy. Nothing fair about it.
