ReplyIt seems to me, Tracy, that the most appropriate name for the proposed city as currently mapped is "Northlake". Since Northlake would be the commercial anchor, and it's the name most people are familiar with (and it doesn't involve touchy high school rivalries) for this area, I think it's an easy choice.

ReplyOh, and there is also a large property across from the UPS that is home to a communications company. They also seem to be a large employer.

Reply"I agree it would leave an island. That doesn't seem like a good idea. How do you know Millar strong armed LCA to include Pleasantdale?"
Wouldn't that area include the large UPS facility that's just east of I-85? Not sure how much of an impact on a tax base such a property would have, but I know it's a major employer.

Actually, wouldn't it be a good thing for the county, since they wouldn't have to pay to maintain the park anymore? As you said, anyone can use a park.

" "Decatur" is not defined by a zip code, and in NO way is the community "divided" because some houses pay for city services and others default to county services."
CITY of Decatur is perhaps not the best comparison here as they have their own school system, a far more important "division" of services than trash pickup, parks, etc. There are much greater consequences of being inside Decatur's city limits than inside Dunwoody's, for example.

"Actually I have a question about the Libraries: If this were to pass... could I not return my Library books at Tucker if I got them from Decatur etc b/c they would no longer all be Dekalb county Libraries"
City hood would not affect libraries or schools. The Decatur library in downtown Decatur is the main branch of the DeKalb system.

ReplyWell, if the episodes of the show are at all realistic, it will be a really cool place next week.

This sounds exciting, and could truly be a positive transformation for the area. Certainly preferable to a gambling complex.
