Should Brookhaven, Chamblee and Dunwoody Form A Fire Department?

Dunwoody officials proposed the idea last week, and Patch wants your opinion in our latest poll.

At a retreat last week, Dunwoody city officials decided to ask the leaders of Brookhaven, Chamblee and Doraville to consider joining together to form a fire department. Dunwoody officials believe such a department would provide better fire protection to those cities than DeKalb County currently does, according to the Reporter Newspapers, without an increase in service fees. Brookhaven leaders were quoted in the article as being interested in the idea, but both Brookhaven and Dunwoody leaders believe such a department is a few years down the road. Dunwoody chose to research if their own Fire Department makes sense in light of DeKalb County actions to raise fire service fees to cities and reduce service, at the same time. The fee for fire service, paid to DeKalb County is ratcheting up slowly, while fire stations are closed and EMS is moved further away from Dunwoody. So why not study the issue?
