Brookhaven Rotary Celebrates Holidays With Toys For Tots

The organization held its annual Christmas dinner party this past Saturday.

The Brookhaven Rotary held its annual Christmas Party this past Saturday, and made a donation to the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots program. The Brookhaven Rotary is set to meet today at noon for its final meeting of 2012.

Brookhaven Rotary Holds Family Night

The event was held at Hudson Grille on Wednesday night.

Brookhaven Rotary held a Family of Rotary event at Hudson Grille in Brookhaven on Wednesday night. Rotary president Tom Hughes told Patch hese events are quarterly and serve as an opportunity for our club to socialize with fellow members, spouses and prospective members.  Venues at various Brookhaven establishments will be rotated in coming months .

New Brookhaven Rotary President Takes Office

Tom Hughes officially became president of the organization on July 1.

Tom Hughes, senior vice president at Hope-Beckham Inc., took office as president of The Rotary Club of Brookhaven on July 1. Hughes is active in the community, coaches youth basketball, serves on the board of directors for the Atlanta Sports Council and on the Leadership Council for Zoo Atlanta. He is a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Men’s Club and a 2011 Community Partner Award recipient for his work with local nonprofit L.E.A.D. (Launch, Expose, Advise and Direct.). In addition to Hughes, the Rotary Club of Brookhaven leadership team includes President-elect Jonathan Byrd, Secretary Carol Lynn Upshaw and Treasurer Chuck Kenney. The Brookhaven chapter meets each week on Wednesdays at Capital City Club in Brookhaven.

Brookhaven Rotary Raises $136,000 For Shepherd Military Program

The chapter recently held its second annual Service About Self Invitational

The Rotary Club of Brookhaven raised more than $136,000 in cash and in-kind donations at its second annual Service Above Self Invitational golf tournament, which was held on Monday, May 14, 2012 at Cherokee Country Club.   Cunningham Associates Heating and Air led the fundraising effort as the General Level sponsor and helped Brookhaven Rotary increase its fundraising by 60 percent over last year’s Inaugural tournament. Net proceeds benefit Shepherd Center’s SHARE Military Initiative (Shaping Hope And Recovery Excellence), which cares for military servicemen and women with traumatic brain injury. “The men and women who serve in our military and their families make many sacrifices to protect our freedom,” said Rotary Club of Brookhaven …

Chambliss, Isakson Scheduled to Keynote Brookhaven Rotary Meetings This Month

Rotary meetings are held every Wednesday at Noon.

  Republican Congressmen Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson are scheduled to be keynote speakers at upcoming Brookhaven Rotary meetings this month. Chambliss is scheduled to speak on Jan. 11 and Isakson is scheduled for Jan. 18. "Some key ingredients that help define the success of any club include the level of participation by its members and the strength of its programs," said Brookhaven Rotary Club President Josh Moreland. "Our membership remains very engaged and our club has a lot of energy going into the new year. Isakson and Chambliss will make oblique criticizims about burdensome regulations. They will talk about the "debt crisis". Listening to their trite talking points makes for a tedious meeting. They are indeed a big part of the problem in Washington. This biggest problems though have to do with the money. Corporate money.
