Sidewalks around Woodward Elementary are first on the list of repairs.
Brookhaven students will return to school from spring break with repaired sidewalks – if Mother Nature cooperates. Brookhaven will begin its first sidewalk repairs Monday near Woodward Elementary School on Curtis Drive. Brookhaven’s Public Works Department has been gathering data on sidewalk conditions throughout the city since Brookhaven’s inception in December. The department reviewed the sidewalks around the five schools in the city and prioritized those in greatest need of repairs. “These are the first sidewalks we are fixing in Brookhaven,” Public Works Director Richard Meehan said. “Our work is contingent on not interrupting the school day, so we had to wait until spring break.” Work is scheduled to run between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., …

The assessments will begin on Monday, Feb. 25.
Beginning Monday, Feb. 25, Infrastructure Management Services (IMS) will begin an evaluation of the pavement condition of public roads in the City of Brookhaven. This pavement assessment analysis will allow Brookhaven to catalog and prioritize road repair needs and prepare plans to address future service requirements. Using an automated data collection vehicle specially equipped with video, lasers, computers and other assessment equipment, IMS will drive every public street and collect data on the pavement condition of each road. They will also collect information on other roadway assets such as road width, curbs and signs. The pavement condition survey is expected to take about two weeks to complete. The city is registering with SeeClickFix to enable people to submit non-emergency road repair requests using any SmartPhone.
Brookhaven has not only filled its first pothole, it has also registered with SeeClickFix to allow people to submit road service requests directly to its new municipal public works department. With the SeeClickFix phone app, you can now report non-emergency issues such as potholes, other road damage and missing or damaged signs using any SmartPhone such as an Android, iPhone or Blackberry. Service requests are received and logged by the city and are sorted based on date and/or popularity. Service requests may also be generated and tracked through the SeeClickFix website.
