The District 81 state representative held a town hall meeting Monday night in Brookhaven.
State Rep. Scott Holcomb said he is optimistic a federal judge will validate the Georgia law allowing Gov. Nathan Deal to suspend members of the DeKalb County school board. "But we're still looking at a process that, best case, will take at least two months to sort out," Holcomb said during a Monday night town hall at Clairmont Baptist Church in Brookhaven. Earlier in the day, Deal announced that he is signing an executive order that accepts the State Board of Education's recommendation that six DeKalb school board members be removed. However, in a legal move late Friday afternoon, the school board filed an emergency motion in federal court, hoping to stop the governor from taking any action. State Rep. Scott Holcomb will be holding a town hall meeting in Brookhaven on Monday, Feb. 25, from 7-8:15 pm at Clairmont Baptist Church. Holcomb will answer questions concerning the current legislative session, the latest developments with the DeKalb school system, and other community issues. State rep. Scott Holcomb wants to start a local dialogue on green initiatives.
State Rep. Scott Holcomb, D-Atlanta, is hoping to start a discussion on 'green' initiatives and projects in his House District 81. Entitled Green 81, Holcomb said, "I believe in sustainable practices and I want to promote them. I’d like us to have an ongoing discussion about how we can make our community more sustainable." Holcomb is calling for tips and suggestions to be sent to Green81@repscottholcomb.com, "There are many little things that we can do that will make a big difference," he said.

Brookhaven's District 81 lawmaker is part of the House Democratic leadership team.
State Rep. Scott Holcomb, D-Atlanta, has been named Minority Caucus Chief Deputy Whip, becoming part of the Democratic Party leadership team in the Georgia General Assembly. The elections were held at the state capitol on Monday morning. The Georgia House Democratic Caucus also elected a Minority Caucus Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Chief Deputy Whip. Holcomb recently won re-election to the state House, defeating Republican challenger Chris Boedeker on Nov. 6.

Boedeker conceded defeat Tuesday, complimenting his opponent on a well-run campaign.
Chris Boedeker conceded defeat in an unorthodox race for House District 81, which covers Brookhaven, Tucker and North Druid Hills. Rep. Scott Holcomb seemed to prevail with 8,700 votes and 56 percent of the vote; Boedeker received 6,824 votes and 44 percent of the votes, according to an unofficial tally by DeKalb County elections. The vote total doesn’t include mailed-in absentee votes. The race included mudslinging, including House Democrats accusing Boedeker of suggesting Holcomb used illegal drugs. Incumbent Holcomb didn’t return phone calls election night. Local state representative Scott Holcomb stands with Georgia House Speaker David Ralston's promise to stop lobbyist gifts to legislators.
State Rep. Scott Holcomb (District 81) has shown his support for ending all lobbyist gifts to state legislators, not just limiting them to a certain dollar amount, and supports Speaker David Ralston's efforts to make this happen. Ralston has said he will begin a study group that looks at how other states ban lobbyists gifts and compare their practices. Holcomb wants this group to start meeting as soon as possible so that the legislators can work on gift bans as soon as the next legislative session begins. "Legislation should be drafted soon so the General Assembly can pass and the Governor can sign the new law quickly. Boedecker will go on to face Democratic incumbent Scott Holcomb in November.
Chris Boedecker defeated Carla Roberts in the GOP primary for state House District 81. With 13 of 14 precincts counted, Boedecker defeated Roberts by a margin of 71 percent to 29 percent. Boedecker will face Democratic incumbent Scott Holcomb on Nov. 6 in the general election. Early in the campaign, Boedecker charged that Roberts was not a legal resident of the district, and therefore should not be allowed to seek the office. However, the Georgia Office of Administrative Standards rejected the challenge.
