Opening Day Set for Murphey Candler Little Leagues

Brookhaven Mayor J. Max Davis will throw out the first pitch during ceremonies beginning at 5:30 pm on Friday.

Opening Day ceremonies for Murphey Cander Park's boys baseball and girls softball is set for Friday afternoon at 5:30. The park's girls softball opening day ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday at 12:00. This is the first season for the park's organizers in the newly formed city of Brookhaven. Brookhaven Mayor J. Max Davis will throw out the first pitch during the opening day ceremonies.  "Last year was an exciting year for Murphey Candler Little League (MCLL)," wrote president Scott Ackaway on the league's website. "For the first time in over 25 years, MCLL hosted nine other Little League parks from across the state in the 2012 Georgia State Little League Tournament. Frontier Baseball League Readies For New Season In Brookhaven

The groundbreaking baseball league for kids with 'mild challenges' plays at Murphey Candler Park.

The Frontier Baseball League is getting ready for its second season at Brookhaven's Murphey Candler Park. The league is designed for kids with ADHD, speech, dyslexia and other mild challenges.  According to 11Alive News, the league is designed for kids with ADD, ADHD, appraxia, auditory processing, speech delays, dyslexia, or other ensory challenges.

Murphey Candler Also Holding National Night Out Event

DeKalb County is attempting to fix a broken pump at the pool before Tuesday night.

The Murphey Candler Homeowners Association is set to host a National Night Out celebration at Murphey Candler Park on Tuesday night, while DeKalb County is hoping to repair a broken pump at the pool before then. The pool pump is reported to have broken sometime last week. National Night Out is a community event, celebrated across the United States and Canada annually on the first Tuesday in August. The homeowners association said the event will run from 7-9 pm on Tuesday night, with swimming and ice cream provided.

Murphey Candler Teams Win Two of Three in Little League Tournament

The 9-year-old Blue Team won, while the Gold team lost in one Sewell Park tournament. The 12-year-old Gold Team cruised in the District 2 Tournament, also at Sewell Park.

After two tough losses, Cartersville posted its first win of the 9-year-old tournament, beating Murphey Candler Gold, 12-3, in the early game Thursday. Murphey Candler still had life in the bottom of the fourth inning with runners on first and second and no outs while trailing 8-3. But Cartersville’s defense stifled the threat with consecutive force-outs at third, then an inning-ending force at second. Shortstop Malik Watts made those final two defensive plays, then led off the fifth inning by beating out an infield single to start a clinching four-run scoring spree.
