DeKalb County recently created a chief of public affairs position out of the parks budget.
Brookhaven residents have reacted with disappointment - but not surprise - to last week's news that DeKalb has created a new public affairs position out of the county's parks budget. Jill Strickland Luse was named last week as DeKalb County's chief of public affairs, charged with developing and directing the implementation of the county's communications program. But the AJC reported on Sunday that the six-figure-salary position came out of the county's parks budget, prompting a strong reaction from several Brookhaven residents. Brookhaven resident Chad Boles - who has organized and formed the Friends of Briarwood Park organization, was quoted as saying, “That money could pay for a playground, or fund a girls’ softball league for an entire…

You tell us, in our latest Patch poll.
Brookhaven's Pete Cabrelli took matters into his own hands Friday afternoon. Using asphalt and other materials he bought at a home improvement store, the Stratfield Drive resident - replete in a white shirt and red tie - made a much-publicized repair to a pothole in his neighborhood. 11Alive reported that a DeKalb County spokesman dismissed the event, calling it "a political stunt." A team of six county workers removed the material that Cabrelli had put in place, and also filled other problem spots in the Stratfield Drive subdivision, according to the AJC. But Carbrelli, who said he favors incorporation, said he was simply trying to keep his neighborhood safe and was tired of making complaints to the county and receiving no repsonse. …

DeKalb County said it is 'assessing its resources.'
The location of the new DeKalb County Police Department's North Precinct is on hold until voters in Brookhaven decide whether the community will become a city, DeKalb County officials said Tuesday. The new facility was scheduled to be built on a five-acre parcel of land near DeKalb-Peachtree Airport off Clairmont, between Bragg and Young streets, but after Gov. Nathan Deal signed a bill to create a charter for a new city of Brookhaven, county officials decided it was best to "assess its resources," according to DeKalb County spokesman Burke Brennan. "I think there's a perception out there that this is a done deal. That [the decision on the location] is complete and it's not," Brennan said. "There's got to be a North Precinct somewhere. We'…

Tucker Tiger goalie Steven Duffy got a ride from his teammates after making a stop on a penalty kick to secure the Tigers’ 2-1 victory over rival Marist at Hallford Stadium on Tuesday night in a battle for the top spot in the Region 6-AAAA soccer standings. The Tigers (8-2) defeated No. 9 ranked Lakeside (6-2-2) 1-0 last Friday at Hallford to set up the big match against Marist. Tucker was up 2-1 in the second round of the penalty kicks and Marist’s Patrick Jackson was lining up against Duffy to keep the War Eagles’ hopes alive. Jackson kicked to Duffy’s left and Duffy smothered the kick to secure the victory and celebration by the Tigers as they hoisted him up on their shoulders. The game was a defensive battle as both goalies made key …

Mr. Phil, you are representative of the typical citizen that voted for the city of Brookhaven without a clue about DeKalb government, the county in which you still remain and pay taxes. The Board of Commissioners is the legislative branch that makes policy and approves the budget. The CEO is the administrative branch that handles the day to day activities and has the authority to hire or fire …   more ›
