Chamblee High Added to Sports Network

The Georgia High School Association has added the school to its coverage network.

The GHSA Network, in partnership with the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), has added Chamblee Charter High School to its broadcast network. The program allows participating schools in Georgia to produce and broadcast TV-like events for live and on demand viewing via the GHSA Network on the PlayOn! Sports video portal located at ghsa.playonsports.com.            
 
   The GHSA Network is a partnership between the GHSA and PlayOn! Chamblee Swimmer Captures 100 Yard Breaststroke

Senior Alex Kemenov led the Chamblee Bulldogs to a seventh place finish in the state championships this past weekend.

Senior Alex Kemenov captured the 100 yard breaststroke state title at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center on Saturday to lead the Chamblee Bulldogs to a seventh place finish in the Class A-AAAAA State Swimming and Diving Championships. Kemenov swam a time of 57.93 in capturing the gold medal while also taking a fourth place finish in the 50 yard freestyle (21.10). He was also part of the Bulldog 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay teams that finished third and sixth, respectively. Kemenov teamed with Nicholas Oh, Jordan Jacob and Wesley Cheung in the 200 to swim a time of 1:28.43. Oh, Mathew Williams and Cheung were part of the sixth place 400 relay team with Kemenov. Chamblee High Sponsors Black History Month Contest

Students can win an IPad.

In celebration of Black History Month, the Chamblee PTSA is sponsoring a "Win an iPAD" Video Contest. Students can create a video - no more than five minutes long - that's about a person or people who positively impacted black history, on a CD or DVD. Deadline for submittal is Feb. 22. Students can ask a teacher for help. If the student wins, that teacher will get $50 towards classroom supplies. Entry forms are available in the Chamblee High School main office. The videos will be judged based on creativity and content as it relates to black history.

Five Chamblee High Band Members Join All State Orchestra

Congratulations to these fine musicians from our community.

Five Chamblee Charter High School orchestra students passed their final audition and are now members of the Georgia All State Orchestra. According to the AJC, the students are: They will perform in Savannah in March. Two other students, Ben Campbell and Conner Hart, were selected for the statewide Honor Orchestra.

Chamblee Middle, Chamblee High Join International Partnership Program

They are the first in Georgia to join the program.

  Chamblee Charter High and Chamblee Middle schools have been selected to join a prestigious international foreign schools joint partnership program. They are the first schools in Georgia invited to join the German PASCH Program - an international schools partnership program coordinated by the Federal Foreign Office and implemented in cooperation with the Central Agency for Schools Abroad, the Goethe-Institut, the Educational Exchange Service of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the States in the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Academic Exchange Service. PASCH schools offer the Deutsche Sprachdiplom (DSD) or German Language Diploma, an examination offered to students outside Germany …

Chamblee Teachers Write to State Superintendent about Wasted Teaching Time

Teachers across Georgia are frustrated about what they perceive as 20 instructional days wasted to implement new Student Learning Objectives or "Slows" as teachers call them.

Teachers throughout Georgia are frustrated that they have to spend about 20 instructional days throughout the school year implementing Student Learning Objective tests, which are part of the Teacher Keys Effectiveness Systems initiated this year by volunteer and Race to the Top districts. The Georgia Department of Education issued a statement to Maureen Downey of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's "Get Schooled" blog. The statement included, "SLO assessments are designed to provide educators with high quality, actionable feedback on their work to effectively and positively impact student learning and growth. Local Schools Kick Off Football Season

Chamblee and Dunwoody square off Thursday night, while Cross Keys kicks off Friday night.

Chamblee High opens its football season Thursday night at Adams Stadium against Dunwoody High. Game time is 7:30 pm. On Friday, Cross Keys kicks off its 2012 season against Best Academy at Grady High School at 5:30 pm. In other games throughout DeKalb: The Stephenson Jaguars step onto the national stage to open the 2012 high school football season as they take on Pine Forest High School of Pensacola, FL in the second of three games in the National High School Gridiron Challenge hosted by North Gwinnett High School on Saturday, Sept. 1. Student Engineering Team Off to the Races at Winston Solar Challenge

Many of the students involved in the project are from Chamblee and Cross Keys high schools.

The DeKalb County Student Engineering Team is preparing to make history as the first team from Georgia to race a handmade, solar-powered car in the Winston Solar Challenge. The challenge, a solar-powered vehicle competition among high school engineering teams, will kick off on July 14 at the Texas Motor Speedway near Dallas. The DeKalb student engineering team unveiled the body and parts for their vehicle in a press conference at Cross Keys High School. While many of the team's students are from Cross Keys, the team also includes representatives from Dunwoody High, Chamblee High and the Fernbank Science Center.
