It's me, the new editor of Brookhaven Patch.
Only I'm not really new. I've been with Patch for more than a year and a half now, since the really busy days of November 2010 when we launched a whole bunch of sites throughout metro Atlanta. See, my real title is Associate Regional Editor, which is a fancy way of saying that I work with several of our Atlanta sites, one of which just happens to be ... Brookhaven Patch. But Stephanie Arnold, our wonderful founding local editor, has moved off to Virginia to work for The Virginian Pilot, and when offered the chance to take over my home neighborhood site, I didn't hesitate a bit. I'm about as close as you can get to a Brookhaven native. I'm told my great-grandfather, a carpenter, helped build Drew Valley in the early 1950s. As an infant, my…

We've all been there. You're out late, partying or just hanging with friends. Then suddenly, it hits you. You're hungry. The problem is, it's past 10 p.m. and the selection of good food dwindles to zilch - except in Brookhaven. We've rounded up some of the local favorites open past bedtime. Vote for your favorite until 10 a.m. Friday and adhere to the attached rules. ----- Kaleidoscope - Although only a few years old, Kaleidoscope has become a Brookhaven 'old favorite' closing its doors at 12 a.m. Sunday - Thursday and 2 a.m on Friday and Saturday. Waffle House - Although it's a chain - and we love our local businesses - Waffle House simply can't be ignored in this Reader's Choice line-up. Located on Peachtree Road next to the MARTA …

Senate rejected a proposed amendment to change the name back to the city of Ashford.
In a 36-14 vote, the Senate passed House Bill 636, the legislation to provide a charter for a city of Brookhaven. The bill was presented Monday afternoon by Sate Sen. Fran Millar (R-40). "This has been a been a two year process, we estimated expenditures to be around $25 million and the revenues exceeded that," Millar said. Millar stated that the city would have four city council members and one mayor. Council members would represent approximately 12,000 residents as opposed to DeKalb County Commissioners who represent 138,000. "The bottom line is that this gives people the right to vote on their form of government. Governing is best when it's local," he said. The bill, sponsored by State Rep. Mike Jacobs (R-80), passed the House in …

Is this an “In kind" donation to Brookhaven Yes? Maybe a back & forth between a Brookhaven Yes/Ashford Neighbors.? Franchise fees/millage rollback or the city retaining the HOST where "most calculations show a slightly less tax burden”, I translate that to pay forty bucks less in property taxes but receiving far less in police services. JC’s millage cap wasn't a mistake as it was vetted by the …   more ›
