A clean up day is being held Saturday, Oct. 27, beginning at 8 am.
The walk-in urgent care clinic wants to support Ashford Park and Woodward Elementary.
SmartCare Urgent Care clinic wants to celebrate both the start of the new school year and Brookhaven's impending cityhood by giving back to Ashford Park and Woodward Elementary Schools. So, they're doing a fundraising campaign through their Facebook page. It's easy: for every person who likes the SmartCare Urgent Care page and also likes this specific post, the clinic will donate 50 cents. For every person who shares that specific post on their timeline, the clinic will donate $1.00. All proceeds will be split evenly between the two schools. The fundraiser ends on Aug. 14 at 4 p.m.

Ashford Park Elementary is holding a sneak peek and open house event from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 10. The sneak peek, held in the school cafeteria, will feature the school PTA, school store, after school programs, spirit wear and more. Families can then look at their students' classrooms, meet the teachers and drop off school supplies from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Click here to see a supply list for Ashford Park. The PTA is cleaning up the school grounds in anticipation of the new school year.
The Ashford Park Elementary PTA is planning its first grounds clean-up of the 2012-13 school year and needs your help. The clean-up will be on Aug. 4 from 8 a.m. to noon and has the goals of trimming weeds, blowing leaves away and cleaning debris, focusing mainly on the front lawn and parking lot. The PTA needs some tools, though, including: If you plan to attend and have any of these items, email Jeff O’Connell at jeff@cobaltcontracting.com. If you can't attend, but want to lend the items, drop them off at the school with your name on them and they will be returned after clean-up ends. Parents and teachers met LaShawn McMillan on Monday morning.
LaShawn McMillan was introduced to parents and teachers on Monday morning as the new principal of Ashford Park Elementary School. McMillan, currently the principal of Arabia Mountain High School, will officially assume her new position on July 1. She takes over for interim principal Rosalind McIntryre. Associate School Superintendent Terry Segovis, who made the introduction, said the decision to name McMillan to the position came Friday afternoon.

The 2012 Brookhaven Bolt brought thousands of runners and supporters to Village Place and Dresden Drive Saturday morning, as the annual event to benefit Ashford Park Elementary School was held. Three-time defending Bolt champion Leonel Ayala was the winner in the men's division, finishing the 5K race at 16:25. Allison Dublinski was the female winner, with a time of 18:43.

Want to register online for this weekend's race? You have till 9 pm tonight.
Online registration closes Wednesday night at 9 pm for the 2012 Brookhaven Bolt. But in-person registration will continue at the Big Peach Running Company through Friday. And participants can pick up their race packets from 4-8 pm at store. The USATE-certified 5K race will be held Saturday, May 19. Male and female winners of the race will receive a $100 Dicks Sporting Goods gift cards as well as Mizuno shoes. All proceeds go to Ashford Park Elementary School. Brookhaven Patch will have regular features and updates on the Bolt through the rest of this week and into race day.

Ashford Park Elementary School held its annual Field Day competition on Friday, May 11, 2012. The event - usually held toward the end of the school calendar year - was originally set for May 4, but was postponed because of inclement weather.
