One solution to improve the local art scene

Business owners can support the local art scene while making money.

As the art columnist for Brookhaven Patch, I’ve made it my main concern to seek out all art-related events, activities, and performances in and around the neighborhood. So far, I have found small businesses that encourage art education, non-profit organizations that plan festivals and performances, and a wonderful museum at Oglethorpe University. Although these are great finds, I still can’t help but feel shorted with the amount of art offered in Brookhaven. Speaking with Gretchen Roberts, executive director of Brookhaven Arts Alliance, she agrees. Brookhaven should offer more art to its patrons and visitors. Brookhaven Arts Alliance Negotiating Space for Art Gallery

New space would expand seasonal programming to year-round offerings.

The Brookhaven Arts Alliance (BAA) is working hard to acquire new gallery space that would provide exhibits, art events, and classes throughout the the year - an ambitious goal for the seven-year-old organization that would bump its programing up from two annual events to year-round exhibitions. Currently, BAA has two programs during the year: the Brookhaven Arts Festival and Taste of Brookhaven. Both events have large community support, but are only held annually in the fall.
