Food Trucks Roll into Chamblee Friday

The food truck craze hits Chamblee on Friday with the Chamblee Plaza Food Truck Rally, which continues every Friday through December.

Here they come!

Food trucks will be rolling into Chamblee this Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the first Chamblee Plaza Food Truck Rally at 5520 Peachtree Blvd. in Chamblee.

The Atlanta Street Food Coalition, in partnership with the plaza's owner, Trinity Development Company, Inc., organized the event, which will be held at the plaza every Friday through December.

"We're going to keep coming as long as people keep coming," said Greg Smith, president of the Atlanta Street Food Coalition.

Smith said it's recently become easier for food trucks to get permits in DeKalb County.

"We're pretty excited to be cracking DeKalb...The location is exactly the type of location we want to be serving with food trucks," Smith explained.

A rotating crew of about eight to 10 food trucks will be parked at the food truck rally each week.

Although there is not yet a confirmed list of food trucks for Friday, Westside Creamery and Hail Cesar are sure to be there.

The Chamblee Plaza Food Truck Rally will be unique in that it will have an international market-feel.

"We really want to do something pretty interesting there...This is the first time we've tried to do something like this," Smith said. "We're taking baby steps right now and going with what we know. Over time, we'll expand."

Who's excited about the food trucks rolling into Chamblee on Friday?

No one. There are tons of better options on Buford Highway at around half the price. "International market feel". That is really funny.

I'm excited. I was there, couple good trucks, sadly they ran out of stuff quickly. I hope there is more trucks in the future Fridays.

I was there about 1:00 pm and no trucks were in sight. Were they there even an hour ? From 11:45 to 12:45 ? If they expect the public to respond and be successful then they are going to have to have more trucks that stay for 2 hours and not run out of food It's a pretty simple equation.

Chamblee Plaza Food Truck Rally Weekly on Fridays at 11:00 pm–2:00 pm Well they only missed by at least an hour or more with regards to the 2:00 pm wrapup time. Maybe the safest bet is to go to the original truck food court at Howell Mill Road and I-75. We've been there and that's an excellent truck food court. Lots of variety of good food. Once again, regrettably, Chamblee is a not ready to be a primetime player.

Hi Gadfly, I am not sure if maybe you were at the wrong location, but the food trucks were definitely there even past the 2 p.m. wrap-up time. I was there. There was a great turnout, even though they only had four food trucks there. Make sure to come out again on Friday! It was great!
