Dynamo Swim Club Home To Hopeful Olympians

Several metro Atlanta swimmers who train at Dynamo in Chamblee are going to the Olympic trials next week.


Several metro Atlanta athletes who train at Chamblee's Dynamo Swim Club will be heading to Omaha, Neb., next week to compete in the USA Swimming Olympic trials.

This year marks the largest trials competition in history, with more than 1,700 swimmers competing for 52 spots on the US Olympic swim team.

Swimmers will vie for the spots the week of June 23-July 2.

Dynamo is the No. 2 nationally ranked swim club with two facilities in metro Atlanta, the other being in Alpharetta. Under Head Coach and CEO Jason Turcotte and Associate Head Coach Rich Murphy, the club is sending its largest contingent of swimmers to trials since 2004.

Dynamo athletes include 2011-2012 US National Junior Team member Gunnar Bentz from Decatur, who qualified to swim in the 400 Meter Individual Medley, 200 Meter Individual Medley, 100 Meter Breaststroke, 200 Meter Breaststroke, and 200 Meter Freestyle.

Cobb County resident, Kylie Stewart, also a 2011-2012 US National Junior Team member, qualified for the 400 Meter Individual Medley, 400 Meter Freestyle, 200 Meter Freestyle, 100 Meter Backstroke, and 200 Meter Backstroke. Both Gunnar and Kylie attend .

rising senior Jamie Christy from Atlanta will swim the 100 Meter Breaststroke, while her classmate, Nicole Stafford of DeKalb County, will swim the 100 Meter Butterfly, 200 Meter Butterfly, 100 Meter Backstroke, 200 Meter backstroke, 100 Meter Freestyle, and 200 Meter Freestyle.

Emily Ranzau, a rising junior at , will swim the 200 Meter Backstroke. A 2012 graduate of , Sam Lewis will swim the 100 Meter Backstroke.

In addition, rising juniors, Jay, Kevin, and Mick Litherland, triplet brothers, have qualified individually for Trials. Jay will swim the 400 Meter Individual Medley, 400 Meter Freestyle, and 200 Meter Backstroke. Kevin will swim the 400 Meter Freestyle and 1500 Meter Freestyle. Mick will swim the 200 Meter Butterfly.

Jack Lane from Decatur, who attends Stanford University, is training this summer with Dynamo and will swim the 200 Meter Butterfly, 100 Meter Butterfly, and 200 Meter Individual Medley. Former Dynamo swimmer Peter Haas from Dunwoody will swim for Auburn University, and Alexis Weber, also a former Dynamo swimmer, will swim at the trials for .
