Oglethorpe's New Lacrosse Team Posts First Conference Win

Michael Kasmarik scoring the first of his team-high four goals only 90 seconds into the contest.

The lacrosse team picked up their first SCAC win in school history on Sunday afternoon by topping Millsaps College on Salamone Field, 12-7. The Majors jumped out to an early 2-1 lead but the Petrels rattled off three straight goals spanning into the second quarter to take command and go on to notch the historic victory.

Oglethorpe got on the board first with Michael Kasmarik scoring the first of his team-high four goals only 90 seconds into the contest. Millsaps rallied for two straight tallies to take a brief lead before consecutive assisted strikes from Maseo Brown, Dustin Carnahan and Kasmarik lifted the Petrels to a 4-2 advantage they would never relinquish. Kasmarik assisted on Brown's first career goal while Jalen Rideaux and Carnahan helped on the other two.

Millsaps would eventually narrow the margin to 5-4 midway through the second quarter before Oglethorpe removed any doubt by going on a five goal run that spanned halftime and concluded with a Kasmarik goal to make the score 10-4 with 4:23 to play in the third quarter. The run began with three consecutive strikes from Arness Holsey and also featured Carnahan's second tally of the contest.
