Oglethorpe Baseball Player Named to SCAC All-Tournament Team

The accomplishment marks the first time since 2004 that a Petrel has received the honor.

Oglethorpe outfielder Jeff Pope was named to the SCAC All-Tournament team on Thursday. He is the first Oglethorpe player to accomplish that feat since current Oglethorpe assistant coach Tim Ernst did it in 2004.

For the tournament, Pope accumulated a .417 average (5-for-12). He drove in a run, scored a run, walked twice and stole two bases. He posted a tournament on-base percentage of .467. In the Petrels' marathon 21-inning game with Rhodes, he went 4-for-8 with the RBI, the run scored, both walks and both stolen bases.

For the season, Pope is leading the team with a .363 batting average and a .476 on-base percentage. He has stolen 23 bases, which also leads the team, and he is tied with shortstop Matt Cornwell for the team lead in runs scored, with 41.
