Neighborhood Squads Gear Up for State Playoffs
Marist girls, boys earn top seeds in soccer playoffs; Chamblee girls, Cross Keys boys clinch berths in tourament
It’s a busy time of year for the student-athletes in the neighborhood.
In addition to players celebrating the jollies of prom season and graduation, the spring sports schedule is coming to a close and steaks are at an all-time high with state championship glory up for grabs.
Once again, Class AAAA powerhouse leads the charge of Brookhaven schools vying for a championship.

This week, the school’s soccer teams kick off the 2011 state playoffs as the No. 1 seed. The girls welcome No. 4 seed Loganville to its campus on Tuesday, April 26. Their male counterparts play host to No. 4 Apalachee the following day.
However, while Marist dominates the field of Class AAAA, the No. 2 seed Chamblee girls will make their claim for a state crown when they host No. 4 seed Heritage on Tuesday, April 26.

boys’ also clinched a berth in the state tourney and will play at No. 2 seed Union County on Friday, April 29.
Along with both soccer teams competing in the playoffs, Marist’s girls’ and boys’ tennis teams are in action this week for the second round of the state tournament. Both squads play their matches on April 27.
On the baseball diamond, both Marist and Chamblee enter the final week of the regular season with region scramble games.
The War Eagles currently boast a seven-game winning streak and play at Tucker today at 5 p.m. Marist rules Region 6-AAAA with a 13-0 league record. This week’s schedule includes home versus Southwest DeKalb on Wednesday and at Columbus on Friday.
Chamblee’s week features road games at Dunwoody today at 5:55 p.m. and at Lakeside on Wednesday to close out the regular season. The Bulldogs are in third place in Region 6-AAA 10-3 and have an overall record of 14-10.
