Lady Petrels Among Nation's Elite from Long Range

Stats show Oglethorpe Women's Basketball team among top shooters in the country.

Just past the halfway mark of the 2011-12 season the NCAA has released statistical data for all 434 women's basketball teams competing at the Division III level. A closer look at the statistics reveal the Lady Petrels are among the nation's elite at shooting the ball from beyond the three-point line.

Junior guard Sarah Jones appears in the individual player rankings a couple of times for her long range accuracy. She currently ranks 15th nationally in three-point shooting percentage, drilling a red-hot 46.3% of her attempts from downtown. Additionally, Jones checks in at 39th in the country in three-pointers made per game by converting 2.6 a contest. When one considers there are 2,170 women's players starting for their respective Division III schools, these loft midseason rankings are quite an accomplishment for Jones.

The Stormy Petrel squad also appears extremely high in the national team rankings for three-point shooting percentage. Oglethorpe has made 54-of-148 shots from beyond the arc for 36.5%, placing them 24th nationally among the 434 Division III squads.
