DeKalb Schools Golf: Chamblee Takes Fourth Place, Dunwoody Takes Title

Dansby's score helped Chamblee take fourth place in the team standings with a team total of 378.

Although the Dunwoody Wildcats took home its fourth consecutive championship, Chamblee’s team took fourth place in the DeKalb County Golf standings.

Khaliq Dansby and Miller Grove’s Brinson McCants, both juniors, both shot 88 to finish in a tie for eighth. Dansby’s score helped Chamblee take fourth place with a team total of 378.

The Dunwoody Wildcats place four golfers in the top five finishers at the DeKalb County Golf Championships to capture their fourth consecutive title by 44 strokes (310-354) over runner-up Lakeside on Monday at Mystery Valley Golf Club.

Junior Ryan Elmore shot a round of 73 to earn medalist honors for the third consecutive season in leading the Wildcats to a tournament record team score of 310 according to the known records of the tournament. Dunwoody held the previous known low of 314 from the 2010 tournament. It was also Dunwoody’s 10th overall county championship win.

Sophomore Raul Oviedo led the group of three other Wildcats in the top five as he shot a silver medalist round of 75, including the day’s best front nine score of 37. Dunwoody freshman Peter Trask put together an 80 and won the scorecard tiebreaker for the bronze medal over Lakeside junior Peter Pappas who also shot a round of 80.

Dunwoody senior Cameron Larose was fifth with a solid round of 82 as he put together a 38 on the back nine to finish in the top five.

Arabia Mountain which finished just six strokes behind Lakeside with a team total of 360 had three sophomore golfers in the top 10 led by sixth place finisher Miles Bizzle with an 86, Darius Davis with an 87 and Ashton Sullivan putting together an 89.

Columbia senior Maram Macham and Lakeside junior Austin Bowman also put together solid 89s to tie for 10th with Sullivan.

Tucker was the final team qualifier in the boys’ team championship taking fifth with a team total of 424 led by freshman Donald Miller with a round of 100.

The Lakeside Lady Vikings won their fourth overall title since the girls’ tournament was begun in 2005 which included a run of three consecutive titles from 2007-2010 (2008 tournament was rained out). Lakeside won the girls’ title with a 216-225 victory over Arabia Mountain which made its best tournament finish in school history.

Sarah Karanga won the individual title for the second time in three years by shooting a round of 86 to finish 13 strokes ahead of runner-up Tamara Martin, a senior from Arabia Mountain, who finished with a 99.

Chamblee sophomore Kayla McClendon was the bronze medalist with a round of 105 and senior Susanne Boden led Lakeside’s victory with a fourth place finish with a 107.

Druid Hills senior Christina Evans was fifth with a 108 and freshman Mackenzie Bowman wrapped up the title for Lakeside in sixth with a round of 109.

Dunwoody senior and defending champion Lindsay Owings was seventh with a 116 following by Lakeside junior Caroline Malone with a 117 and Arabia Mountain junior Seana Deas with a 136.
