Brookhaven Resident is Semifinalist for Chris Rubio Award

John Morrison is one of 21 in the running for the award.

From Pace Academy:

Pace Academy senior long snapper John Morrison is one of 21 semifinalists for the 2014 Chris Rubio Award.

The award, presented by Herbalife, is given annually to the National High School Long Snapper of the Year. It is named in honor of Chris Rubio, a prominent long snapping coach who provides training and development to long snappers throughout the country.

Morrison, the son of Toni and Tim Morrison of Brookhaven, was the Knights’ starting long snapper during the 2012 and 2013 football seasons. This season, he was 37 for 37 on punt snaps, 5 for 5 on field goal snaps and 40-40 on PAT snaps.

In addition, he had three tackles, five downed punts and one forced fair catch. In order to be considered for the award, long snappers can have no more than one bad snap, and Morrison has never missed a snap for the Knights.

This summer, Morrison was invited to participate in Rubio’s Event Elite long snapping camp in Los Angeles, Calif. He and 29 other of the nation’s top high school long snappers took part in the three-day camp.

Chris Rubio Award semifinalists will be evaluated based on one-minute highlight tapes and letters of recommendations from coaches, teachers and sports reporters. Finalists will be announced Dec. 1, and a winner will be named at the High School Football Awards Banquet Ceremony in Las Vegas over Martin Luther King weekend in January.

The event also will feature the announcement of the Chris Sailer Kicking and Chris Rubio Long Snapping First, Second and Third Team All-Americans.
