Parental Awareness Conference Saturday

Parents, guardians, and mentors of DeKalb County School children are invited.

The DeKalb County School District will host a "Parent Educational Awareness & Empowerment Conference" this Saturday, Nov 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the conference center at Georgia Perimeter College, 495 North Indian Creek Drive, Clarkston.

Invited are all parents, guardians, and mentors of DeKalb County School children. Dr. Joyce Morley, a DeKalb County School Board member (District 7), is hosting this event, with the support of School Superintendent Michael Thurmond.

In light of recent data from their June leadership conference that shows schools in Region 5 have the lowest rate of parent involvement, as well as the lowest rate of academic achievement. Without the involvement and engagement of parents, it is a very difficult task to fully educate the children in a quality manner.

Donna Lowry, educational reporter at 11 Alive, will moderate three workshops with the following titles:

  • "Beyond The Big Talk - It is a Different Day."
  • "Navigating the School District"
  • "Holding it Together in the Fast Lane."
