Oglethorpe Baseball Player Signs Contract with New York State League

Sam Briend signed with the club this summer.

Oglethorpe senior right-handed pitcher Sam Briend of Cumming, Georgia has signed a pro baseball contract to compete in baseball's New York State League (NYSL) this summer.

The New York State League is a developmental league for the Canadian-American Independent League. It features a 42 game season from June 20th to July 15th with a spring training from June 13 to the 17th. The NYSL has placed over 200 players onto professional teams since 2007.

Briend led the Stormy Petrel staff with 11 starts and 63 strikeouts in 2011. He compiled a 2-4 overall record to go along with an ERA of 6.08. He tossed 8 innings of 4-hit ball to record Oglethorpe's only complete game of the season in a narrow 2-1 loss at LaGrange on February 16.
