For the last 20 years, the Marist Student Build chapter has collaborated with other Atlanta schools to build multiple homes for the Atlanta community via the Atlanta Habitat for Humanity affiliate.  Marist students along with their peers from Pace Academy, Westminster Schools, The Lovett School and Woodward Academy will build a home. In spring 2012, the Marist Women Build chapter will build two homes to commemorate its 10th anniversary year, bringing the total to 32 homes built by the Marist School community.

In addition to recruiting student volunteers to build the home this year, the students are tasked with raising funds to cover a part of the cost of the homes.

“The partnership has been a big part of our full service outlook at the school.  It has a very big profile at the school," said Marist Principal Rev. Joel Konzen. “It is one thing to learn about economics and history; however, it is another thing that the students are helping create something for the future.  All of our students, clubs and sports teams are required to do community service.  To affect someone’s life and give them a new opportunity, to have a hand in this, is pretty terrific.”

Next month, five schools will dedicate the 2011 Student Build House.  During the dedication ceremony, the new homeowner will have her home blessed and dedicated by the students, faculty and administration of all the schools involved in the project.
