Marist Falls to Tucker in Region 6-AAAA Soccer

The Tigers beat out Brookhaven's home team Marist in a 2-1 battle last Friday.

Tucker Tiger goalie Steven Duffy got a ride from his teammates after
making a stop on a penalty kick to secure the Tigers’ 2-1 victory over
rival Marist at Hallford Stadium on Tuesday night in a battle for the top
spot in the Region 6-AAAA soccer standings.

The Tigers (8-2) defeated No. 9 ranked Lakeside (6-2-2) 1-0 last Friday at
Hallford to set up the big match against Marist.

Tucker was up 2-1 in the second round of the penalty kicks and Marist’s
Patrick Jackson was lining up against Duffy to keep the War Eagles’ hopes
alive.

Jackson kicked to Duffy’s left and Duffy smothered the kick to secure the
victory and celebration by the Tigers as they hoisted him up on their
shoulders.

The game was a defensive battle as both goalies made key saves throughout
the game to keep the game scoreless.

Marist (5-4) had an apparent goal disallowed early in the second half and
the two teams continued to battle in the scoreless tie.

Tucker’s Solomon Roberts picked up a rebound in front of the Marist net
and got it past goalie Vaughn Moore for a 1-0 Tiger lead with 2:29 left in
regulation.

The War Eagles were not finished and after a furious attack Marist’s
Austin Hardin put a header in the net with just 1:43 to play to knot the
score at 1-1.

The two teams finished the two five-minute overtime periods still knotted
at one goal apiece to set up the penalty kick scenario.

Tucker’s Manthe Nsukami and Lewis Makor were successful on their kicks to
give the Tigers a 2-1 lead in the first round of kicks. Marist’s Micah
Akin managed to put his kick in the net to send the game into the second
round of penalty kicks.

William Gomez put his kick into the corner of the net off the hands of
Moore in a diving attempt for the save for a 1-0 Tucker lead. Hardin
knotted the session at 1-1 with a kick past Duffy and Henok Kebede
supplied Duffy with the 2-1 advantage with his score.

The No. 4 ranked Marist Lady War Eagles (6-1) cruised in the girls’ game
earlier on Tuesday jumping to a 7-0 lead at the half and finishing off the
Lady Tigers 10-0.  Tucker fell to 4-5-1 on the season.
