Lacrosse comes to Oglethorpe

Stormy Petrel athletics to showcase 15th varsity sport in home opener next Wednesday

The sport of lacrosse will debut on the campus of Oglethorpe University on Wednesday, March 16 as the Stormy Petrels take on Carthage College on Salamone Field.

The opening face-off will officially begin the advent of Oglethorpe’s 15th varsity sport on a campus that has not witnessed a contact sport since football went defunct in the 1930’s.

The Petrels have already split a pair of road contest this season, topping Reinhardt 9-6 in Waleska in the season opener and falling to Shorter 14-11 in Rome, but Wednesday’s match provides the Oglethorpe community with their first chance to witness the sport on the Stormy Petrels’ famed campus.
