Kittredge Wins Blue Ribbon Award

Kittredge is the only DeKalb County school, and one of eight in Georgia, to be recognized.

The U.S. Department of Education has announced the 2012 list of National Blue Ribbon Schools and Kittredge Magnet School is on the list.

Kittredge was named an Exemplary High Performing school.

“This is an outstanding honor for this school,” said Superintendent
Dr. Cheryl Atkinson in a press release. “The Kittredge staff weaves high levels of academic rigor throughout every course from core subjects to extracurriculars, and as a result, the school helps children become high-level thinkers at an
early age.”

To get into Kittredge, students must be in the 75th percentile or above for reading and math as well as in the 85th percentile or above on the complete composite. They must also have a 3.0 grade point average in the fall semester of the application year. Admission is by lottery.

National Blue Ribbon Schools are committed to accelerating student achievement and preparing students for success in college and careers. Exemplary High Performing designation is for schools that are among the state's best in terms of academic performance.

Kittredge will be honored in a ceremony on Nov. 12 and 13 in Washington, D.C.

I would like to congratulate my wife Carrie and all the teachers at Kittredge Magnet for their continuing success. They work so hard and stay late so much more than people realize.
