On Nov. 8, voters in DeKalb County will decide whether to continue the one-cent sales tax for school improvements approved by voters in 2007. The SPLOST will extend from 2012–2017 and address a portion of the $2.2 billion need.

  • Renovations, modifications, and upgrades to existing buildings and facilities to , , Montgomery Elementary, , and Chamblee Middle School;
  • Upgrades to comply with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA);
  • Purchase new school buses and upgrade radio communications;Β
  • Technology upgrades
  • Purchase support vehicles
  • A $16 million construction project at Henderson Middle School, including the acquisition of land, and the demolition of all or portions of existing structures, if necessary;
  • $58.7 million Chamblee High School Construction.

Georgia currently charges a 4 percent sales tax with groceries and prescription drugs being exempt. However, counties may add up to an additional 2 percent for SPLOST.
