Cross Keys to Host First Annual DeKalb County Robotics Championship

Cross Keys is a favorite to win.

Brookhaven's only public high school will host DeKalb County School District's first annual VEX Robotics DeKalb County League Championship and will have an Technology Education Open House on Saturday, Feb.11. 

“Hosting this tournament and open house is a culmination of hundreds of hours of hard work by the young people and the faculty at ]," said Kim Gokce, president of the Cross Keys Foundation. “It's a bonus that Brookhaven's hometown team is one of the favorites to win along with Dunwoody High School and Arabia Mountain High School.

Both events are open to the public and are family friendly.

The robotics championship will start at 7:30 a.m. with inspection and open practice in the school gymnasium. The matches are immediately followed by an awards ceremony and conclude at Noon.

The open house will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m and will showcase Cross Keys’ technical and agricultural programs. The programs prepare students to continue their technical or engineering education and workforce readiness in Health Science, Dental Science, Manufacturing, Information Technology and other high tech programs. The Health Sciences program provide students with the opportunity to leave High School as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Dental Assistant, and is a natural pathway to higher education in the medical field. The programs are available to students from a seven high school area serving over 10,000 high school students.

The Manufacturing and Engineering program includes courses in Material Science, Robotics and Automated Systems. Students in this program are currently working on a solar car that will compete in the Solar Car Challenge, a 1,600 mile race from Dallas to Los Angeles in the summer. The Cross Keys team will be the first team from the State of Georgia to do so. The Information Technology program exposes students to the fundamentals of enterprise information technology, advance web design as well as animation.
