Brookhaven Rower Signs With Texas

Marist student Devon Erickson also has impressive swimming record.

Brookhaven resident and Marist student Devon Erickson has signed a National Letter of Intent to row at the University of Texas at Austin next year.

Erickson was a member of the Dynamo National Team and a NSCA Junior National qualifier in swimming before trying her hand at rowing last February with Saint Andrew Rowing Club in Roswell.

Erickson was in the middle of the college recruiting process with swimming when she switched to rowing.

She says she was shocked at the response she received. “Colleges were looking at me because of my swimming background, knowing that the dedication and work ethic required to swim at the elite level translated well to the sport of rowing.”

Erickson still plans to swim for Marist this winter.  “My butterfly may be a little rusty, but the conditioning I get from rowing will hopefully still allow me to contribute to the team this year.”

Records still stand at Roxboro Valley Swim and Tennis Club and Brookwood Hills Community Club for Erickson’s swimming skills.  Erickson is a member of the National Honor Society, National Latin Honor Society and Student Ambassadors and serves on the board of Habitat for Humanity.
