Boys & Girls Club Celebrates College Bound Graduates

Four members of the Brookhaven Boys & Girls Club were recently honored.


Four graduates who are members of the Brookhaven Boys & Girls Club were recently honored for their participation in a college preparation activity.

Carlos Guzman, Katherine Narvaez, Laura Ramirez and Wilson Maldonado all recently completed the Boys & Girls Club Of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) College Bound program.

The students were recognized at the BGCMA's 18th annual College Bound Senior Celebration. Six other DeKalb County high school graduates were also honored at the event.

College Bound is an educational program designed to support BGCMA high school students, grades 8-12, through the college preparation and application process.

Participants benefit from one-to-one academic advising, ACT/SAT and Georgia High School Graduation Test preparation, tips for improving study skills, financial aid and scholarship information and college tours. Senior Celebration is an annual event which concludes the College Bound program and celebrates members’ high school accomplishments and post-graduate plans.

Guzman has been accepted to Reinhardt College; Narvaez and Ramirez will be attending Agnes Scott; and Maldonado will be going to Georgia Perimeter College.

College Bound’s 2011-2012 senior class graduated 107 members. Of those 107 members, 90 percent of them were accepted to college and plan to continue their education this fall. Forty-eight seniors were awarded funding through the BGCMA Scholarship program, and 43 graduated with honors, having a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average.
