Two Republicans Seek To Unseat Holcomb

Two Republicans are vying for the chance to face District 81 incumbent this November.

Chris Boedecker and Carla Roberts both qualified last week to face Holcomb, a 39-year-old Democrat who just finished his first legislative session.

was the incumbent for District 81. However, she and Holcomb were both drawn into the same district this past legislative session. This past Friday, Parent announced she was taking a position as executive director of Georgia Watch, a statewide consumer advocacy organization, and would not seek re-election.

Holcomb qualified for the race this past Friday.

County, city and state legislative boundaries are required to be redrawn every 10 years in accordance with new U.S. Census data.

Boedecker is a 31-year-old attorney who qualified for the race this past Thursday. Roberts, age 50, lists her occupation as a physician according to the Georgia Secretary of State.

The two will meet in a Republican primary on July 31 to determine who will face Holcomb in November.

School Holcomb for re-election in the new House District 81,” said Parent. “Scott is an attorney, a veteran, a father, and a friend.  Scott is one of the most thoughtful, ethical, and bright people you will ever meet.  Scott and I know there will be a time in the future when we can serve again, and we are proud to work as a team.”

Both Holcomb and Parent have described themselves as longtime friends and colleagues.

"Elena and I agreed that it would not be in the best interests of our constituents if we were to run against each other in the primary," Holcomb said. "In some ways this was not an easy decision for me. While our political system is the best that was ever designed, our politics today are incredibly coarse. We are a divided nation and we are a divided state. These divisions will be on full display as we head toward the primary on July 31 and the general election on November 6."
