Sidewalk Construction Begins on Ashford Dunwoody

Motorists should be aware of partial lane closures and delays.

Brookhaven crews were scheduled to begin construction of a new sidewalk on Ashford Dunwoody Road on Tuesday.

According to a press release from the city, the new 570-foot sidewalk will stretch from Stratfield Drive to Humility Lane and connect to the existing sidewalk along the west side.

Crews plan to work during the day and avoid peak rush hour traffic. Motorists should expect partial lane closures and traffic delays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Construction will take several weeks, weather pending.

“We are excited to make Brookhaven more walkable and connect neighborhoods to neighborhoods,” Mayor J. Max Davis said in the release.

In November the city council approved an amended 2013 budget with $400,000 for new sidewalks. Locations were selected in each district.

An additional $500,000 is allocated for sidewalks in the 2014 budget, totaling nearly $1 million in pedestrian improvements in the city's first two years.
