Senior Connections, ARC Partner to Offer Preventive Health Services and Screenings for Seniors

County residents aged 50+ can take advantage of free healthy screenings.

The North DeKalb Senior Center in Chamblee will serve as a mobile one-day clinic where local seniors can have access to preventive health service this Fall.

A collaboration between the Atlanta Regional Commission and Senior Connections will give seniors the opportunity to get vaccinations, blood pressure and blood glucose screenings, nutrition screenings and more.

The clinic is sponsored by SPARC (Sickness Prevention Achieved through Regional Collaboration), which brings together the Atlanta Regional Commission Area Agency on Aging, county-based aging programs and other partners throughout the region, according to a release. The goal is to improve access to preventive services and screenings and to encourage more older adults to get their flu shots, pneumonia vaccinations, mammograms and other annual screenings.

The North DeKalb Senior Center is located at 5238 Peachtree Road and will be held Sept. 27 from  9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Participants are asked to arrive by 8:30 a.m.

Connections is asking seniors (65+) to bring their IDs and Medicare cards as some stations need to see them. For example, the flu vaccines are covered by Medicare, but the Board of Health will need to make a copy of their card. The mobile mammography is covered by Medicare as well, as long as the client has not had a mammography in the past 365 days. Seniors without insurance will need to pay $135 for for the mammogram.
