Pink Pony Proposes De-Annexation

The strip club is suing Brookhaven because it wants to continue serving alcohol.

The attorney for the Pink Pony has asked about removing the business from the city limits of Brookhaven.

According to a Reporter Newspaper article, Aubrey Villines told the Brookhaven city council: “If you don’t want us, let us go."

The Pink Pony is suing Brookhaven because it wants to continue serving alcohol. It can do that in unincorporated DeKalb.

A Brookhaven city law prohibits the sale of alcohol in establishments where nude dancing occurs.

The Reporter article states that Villines said the Pink Pony brings more than 300,000 people a year to Brookhaven.

I would to. Who can blame them. It's clearly a personal vendetta / morality issue being targeted at the Pink Pony. And to the one solid counter argument I've heard to this: That they don't want more businesses like this propping up. Well that's an easy fix, grandfather the PP and enforce on new businesses. Done and done, but that isn't the issue is it so this will continue.

Deannexation is certainly possible. The largest landowner closest to the expressway that is connected to the Pink Pony property is the Salvation Army. Wouldn't it be ironic for the Salvation Army to sign on for Deannexation with the Pink Pony? Do you think other contiguous connected businesses/property owners will want to join the movement? Which ones and why?

Deannexation (or 'omit's) have been a standard for existing businesses/land uses that new municipalities didn't want to tolerate. However, will these be offered to ALL property owners that want them? It doesn't seem appropriate to limit the omits.

An easy path to de-annexation = real competition between cities and counties for my dollar ; tax payer wins.
Brookhaven Maven June 04, 2013 at 02:33 AM
Can me and my neighbors apply for de-annexation for the section of Sexton Woods Bhaven took -- but that should have gone to Chamblee? I'll vote yes to get out! To Pink Ponyers reading these comments: Please keep the pressure on. Lots of people living in Bhaven support you and your lawsuit. Go, fight, win!

Please de-annex me as well! How smart is it for Brookhaven to push the pp out along with the tax dollars?
Moon June 04, 2013 at 08:34 PM
Brookhaven Maven, there are plenty of residents in Sexton Woods that voted yes to the city. If you want to take a stand and speak for yourself then ok, but speaking for everybody in your neighborhood does not speak the truth. The act of voting and the majority winning is called Democracy, get used to it.
Eddie E. June 04, 2013 at 09:05 PM
So Moon, you support the right of those of us who voted NO and never changed our minds to be allowed to OMIT?
Brookhaven Maven June 04, 2013 at 09:10 PM
Moonbeam -- Check the record. Almost no one who lives in Sexton Woods voted for the city. If you are looking at the totals from our precinct, that doesn't wash. Most of those voters do NOT live in Sexton Woods. You have to look at the vote by street to get a true read of who voted how. Look at the results for Precinct 118 -- Ashford Parkside -- by street, and you will find that Westcott, Highgrove, St. James Crossing, and even Kadleston people vote at 118. THEY are the ones who voted FOR cityhood -- not Sexton Woods!

I referenced a comment speaking to "me and my neighbors" when the actual poll of neighbors proved the opposite. It has nothing to do with your comment.
Brookhaven Maven June 04, 2013 at 09:19 PM
Eddie - This Moonbeam obviously either doesn't know how to obtain a street-level statement of the vote, or else he doesn't know how to read it, or else s/he thinks Sexton Woods is in Precinct 114. Sexton Woods folks overwhelmingly voted against cityhood.
Eddie E. June 05, 2013 at 03:19 AM
Of course. As did Ashford Park. But hey, now we all get to pay for a bankrupt government together!
Booyah June 05, 2013 at 08:08 PM
Maven should dance at the Pink Pony so their attorney can include her in the de-annexation move. Or other dance moves.
