Over Crowd Objections, Planning Commission OKs Century Center Rezoning

In a story first reported by Patch, Century Center is petitioning to become part of Brookhaven.

Brookhaven's Planning Commission approved a rezoning for Century Center on Thursday night, moving the development one step closer to becoming part of the city.

The 4-2 vote in favor came after a meeting in which several residents voiced their opposition to the rezoning, according to The Brookhaven Post.

The panel heard presentations Brookhaven Community Development Director Susan Cannon, and Jim Bacchetta, vice president of Highwoods Properties, which owns Century Center.

In a story first reported on Patch, Century Center's owners have petitioned to become part of Brookhaven, and the city notified DeKalb County on July 1 of its intent to annex the complex.

Chamblee has been seeking to annex Century Center into its boundaries for the past two years.

Next step: The Brookhaven city council will consider the issue at its July 23 meeting.
