Oglethorpe Grad, Adult Toy Store Magnate May Enter Atlanta Politics

Michael Morrison is rumored to be considering a challenge to an Atlanta city councilman.

Michael Morrison, a 1995 Oglethorpe University graduate and founder of numerous adult toy stores throughout metro Atlanta, is rumored to be considering a bid for the Atlanta City Council.

According to Georgia Voice, Morrison, who launched 9 1/2 Weeks and Insurection, may announce as soon as next week that he is challenging Alex Wan this fall.

Wan was the sponsor of an effort to phase out numerous adult-oriented businesses along Cheshire Bridge Road, measures that were defeated earlier this week by the city council.

Creative Loafing reports that in 2005, Morrison spent two-and-a-half years behind bars for tax evasion. He was also forced to pay $1.4 million back to the Internal Revenue Service.

Morrison has also been arrested for violating the city's obscenity laws. The Oglethrope University graduate opened his first adult toy store, 9 1/2 Weeks, near a Midtown location the city had chosen for a children's museum.
