New PDK Hangars Costing $3 Million More Than Expected

Originally budgeted for $5 million, their cost has ballooned to more than $8 million.

DeKalb-Peachtree Airport Director Mike Van Wie told the Buckhead Business Association last week that construction has begun on more than 50 new hangars at the airport.

The Reporter Newspapers also said the project is costing more than the original $5 million budget because of federal environmental regulations. Total construction costs will be around $8.3 million.

But Van Wie touted the airport's economic benefits, saying the facility generates $39.9 million in tax revenue to DeKalb and creates more than 1,800 jobs.

Van Wie also criticized President Obama's position that corporate jets are unneccessary luxuries.

He said the 'No Plane No Gain' advocacy program is a joint effort between the National Business Aviation Association and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association, and was formed in reaction to Obama's criticism of the general aviation industry.

This is a great story, One item is left out, that is how will the county regain the extra money that they will pay. For last week House Bill 619 was passed. The bill will force another vote on the issue of increase the size of Chamblee. The Same item that was voted Down in Nov.2012,returning for Nov.2013.I will love to hear those who hated the Brookhaven vote being held on the Primary vote in July 2012. The Nov.2013 vote WILL be the ONLY item to be voted on

another note of interest, the primary House Members that were against the July 2012 vote, were the First two ,that forces a ONE item vote in Nov.2013,and one of them did not even vote on House Bill 619.
