Merry Christmas, Chamblee! Sunday Liquor Sales Expected on Dec. 25

The final reading of the proposed city ordinance expected next month.

More than a month following , City Council is expected to pass an ordinance that will allow purchases as early as Christmas Day.

In April, Chamblee City Council voted unanimously to allow voters to decide by referendum whether to allow Sunday sales. Earlier this month on Election Day, 85 percent of Chamblee voters approved the measure.

The proposed ordinance cleared the first hurdle to adoption at the first reading on Nov. 15 during the Chamblee City Council meeting. The second and final reading is scheduled for Dec. 20.

Chamblee City Clerk Nancy Williams said council agreed that if the referendum passed, the governing body would pass the law before the end of the 2011.Β  Although State Law prohibits the sale of certain spirits on Christmas residents can purchase beer and wine at merchants such as gas station.
