Jacobs' Bill may not be in Brookhaven's Best Interest

Representative Mike Jacobs' actions in the way in which he introduced HB 428  circumvented proper procedures by failing to present the bill before the local delegation for discussion. He and the Republican Speaker of the House disenfranchised a complete delegation that DeKalb County voters elected to represent them in the Georgia General Assembly.

All local legislation is supposed to go before the local delegation prior to its presentation to the committee to discuss the bill. Further, Representative Jacobs has never held any public hearings on this bill to provide its support or opposition to this legislation.

There has been no economic impact statements to determine the cost of this legislation to the Brookhaven community. It is our belief this bill will increase the tax rate of every resident in Brookhaven and DeKalb County, as well as increase business taxes of businesses in DeKalb County. No community group has supported this bill except for the closed door meeting Representative Jacobs has held with three groups who is being lead down 'fools lane'.

Jacobs is a person who seeks whatever benefits himself without consideration of the Brookhaven community and DeKalb County. He has a history of going against anything that is good for DeKalb County.

Brookhaven Chamblee Home Owners and Neighborhood Business Alliance are in the process of commissioning and economic impact study to show the true cost of this to the Brookhaven community and DeKalb County.

This is an example of and arrogant politician who is looking out for his interest and not the community he supposed to represent.
