HB 636 Scheduled for Debate Today

House Bill 636, the legislation to incorporate Brookhaven, is up for debate today by the House Floor for Friday, Feb. 17.

During his town hall meeting at ο»ΏOglethorpe Universityο»Ώ Thursday night, Rep. Mike Jacobs, the bill's sponsor, invited residents to watch what he called a "historic moment" either from the House Gallery at the State Capitol on online.

Jacobs said the the bill will likely be up for debate by 10 a.m. or 11 a.m.

The Rules Committee passed the bill favorably on Thursday, Feb. 16. The House Governmental Affairs Committee favorably passed the bill with an amendment to change the name of the proposed city from Brookhaven to Ashford. Although Jacobs said he does not agree with the change, there will be other opportunities to address the name as the legislation moves through the General Assembly.
