As a candidate for the City of Brookhaven I attended the debate at the United Methodist Church last night. I was disappointed that most of the debate was about each candidate attacking J. Max, and J. Max defending himself. Most of the attacking was over “transparency.” If voters want transparency in government then lets require ALL City Employee’s and elected officials salaries and benefits be posted on the City’s web site. That is my position. If you want a government that is not corrupt then limit that governments power to tax, spend and regulate (then there is no reason to bribe a city official). I also want term limits. I am the only candidate who is for a 3 term limit for all elected officials. Twelve years is long enough. Anything more than that encourages corruption and favoritism. We need new blood in our elected officials, not career politicians. There was a question from a voter on Tobey Rd in Ashford Park asking for each mayoral candidate to take a stand on possible development of the PDK green space (between Skyland, Tobey, 9th st, and Clairmont). This is an enormous green space most people do not even know exist. It’s a set aside required by PDK when a north/south run way was active. This run way is no longer operational, so the County is probably free to re-zone this green space light industrial and develop it. That would be a disaster for Ashford Park. The park should be a park or left alone. Larry Hurst City Council #2
