District 3 City Council Candidate Gaye Stathis Withdraws
Due to an unforseen family medical emergency, Stathis said she is withdrawing from the city council race.
Brookhaven District 3 City Council candidate Gaye Stathis is officially withdrawing from the council race effective immediately.
Stathis said her withdrawal is due to an unforseen family medical emergency. Her sister, who lives alone in North Carolina, recently received a terminal diagnosis, and Stathis plans to travel there to help care for her.
"We don't know what to expect," Stathis told Brookhaven Patch. "I literally found out five days after I registered."

It is too late to have her name removed from the ballot, she said. She is now supporting candidate Kevin Quirk.
