The DeKalb County Parks Recreation Department has released a rendering of the new playground.

The will be located on the corner lot at Briarwood Road and Briarwood Way. This area will feature a a pavilion with barbecue, water and electrical outlets, a wrought-iron fence, and 10 parking spaces.

Thanks to Katie Oehler of the zoning and land use committee for providing this information.

Interesting how Dekalb has done NOTHING in this park for 5 or more years (or any other Brookhaven park), and all of a sudden a few months before the city vote, a "drawing / rendering" is released. Do they really think we are that stupid? REALLY? Key phrase – “A schedule for improvements have not been released.” Folks, we still haven't seen the new library from the 2005 county bond issuance. That bond money was spent for libraries, a water park and similar perks on the south end of the county. After July 31, if the city referendum does not pass, you won't see a dime spent in Briarwood park, or any other Brookhaven park. Also, police patrols will decline to 2011 levels, i.e. only 3 to 6 patrols per shift from I-85 to 285 west of Clairmont Road & Chamblee. The UGA feasibility study used Smyrna to estimate police expenditures and patrols at 8 to 9 patrols per shift. Smyrna has a higher population (52,000), a larger land area (over 15 sq miles, v. 11.67), and higher poverty rate (13.7% v. 12.2%) than Brookhaven. You think the crime is bad now in Drew Valley and Ashford Park, just wait until after July 31 if the new city does not pass, unless those neighborhoods hire private security patrols like neighborhoods north of Peachtree. Who are the opponents of the new city? Learn below from one of the most active opposition bloggers… Several weeks ago I asked if he/she was employed by the county, but received no response. For the record, I am a CPA who specializes in state and local taxes, with the only benefit to be gained from a new city being the ability to spend some of my tax dollars locally in our own community, in the most efficient manner possible…. HamBurger 3:19 pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 As a County employee I cannot reveal my name. Just trust me when I say the CVI study has some shortcomings. My pension is safe, so I have no reason to care if Brookhaven is incorporated. Having been with County for a long time, I know their hearts are pure. Now pass the mustard and onions. Hi Jeff. I would have hoped YOU would not stoop to the levels of one of your colleagues that created a screen name that is the same as another to post as them. I would have hoped that YOU would have been the point of professionalism and integrity. I see now that, unless you are mistaken in your understanding of the antics of your colleague, you show no more integrity. http://nocitybrookhaven.com/yardsign_sticker.html

G O O D Y! A shiny new, uncommitted Park!!! I wonder if Brookhaven residents will observe increased DeKalb Police patrols prior to the incorporation vote? Bet you will. “The probability of a certain set of circumstances coming together in a meaningful (or tragic) way is so low that it simply cannot be considered mere coincidence. ” An apt quote from V.C. King, author of 'Titanic: Relative Fate."

Tom, you are surprised that I actually type the truth and facts on the blog??? I have no idea who Hamburger is. His/her comments are all no city. Stefanie did mention a month or so ago that there are several no city bloggers with the same IP address, but different screen names. She did not indicate that any of our supporters were masquerading as no city bloggers.
Tom Gilmer May 15, 2012 at 09:43 PM
Jeff, Do you realize what you just said? Do you realize that you just leaked information that the Patch has violated their own privacy policies and have shared IP addresses with your organization?
HamBurger May 15, 2012 at 10:05 PM
Mr. Jeff, the HamBurger you reference in your post is not me. However, there is high suspicion that it is J. Max Davis. I post as myself and last weekend I assumed the alter ego of J. Max Davis as a retaliatory measure. Your Brookhaven Yes board member, J. Max Davis, posts under several names. Sometimes I think he might have made a better cheap novel writer rather than an attorney. Regardless, the Patch does seem to have preference as to how they handle their TOS as my fake J. Max Davis account has been suspended and the fake HamBurger continues to post. Mr. HamBurger making special hamburgers to serve to Mr. Jeff once he realizes the Vinson study was indeed flawed!

@TIMOTHY DARNELL: You care to explain? • Jeff Kellar 4:54 pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 ..Stefanie did mention a month or so ago that there are several no city bloggers with the same IP address, but different screen names. She did not indicate that any of our supporters were masquerading as no city bloggers. • Tom Gilmer 5:43 pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 • Jeff, Do you realize what you just said? Do you realize that you just leaked information that the Patch has violated their own privacy policies and have shared IP addresses with your organization? • Stephanie L. Arnold 1:05 pm on Friday, April 20, 2012 Hi, there. I don't edit posts. They appear as you write them. • Max 12:26 pm on Friday, April 20, 2012 How come many of the oppo remarks are from the same IP address? • Carl Childers 12:49 pm on Friday, April 20, 2012 Are you implying that Stephanie Arnold from the Patch is supplying IP addresses to the Yes Crowd of the people who post here? Stephanie? • Stephanie L. Arnold 1:07 pm on Friday, April 20, 2012 No, Carl. I'm not supplying anyone with IP addresses! LOL!
HamBurger May 16, 2012 at 12:27 AM
Mr. Jeff, you are aware of what is going on with all the posts, right? Mr. HamBurger, STILL making special hamburgers to serve to Mr. Jeff once he realizes the Vinson study was indeed flawed!
Jeff Kellar May 16, 2012 at 03:59 AM
Tom, regarding the UGA study, look at the previous studies of the other cities, then compare them to actual results; and also how Dunwoody residents currently pay the lowest property taxes of ANYONE in Dekalb County, as well as the residents of Johns Creek and Sandy Springs currently pay the lowest property taxes of ANYONE in Fulton County. Then when you realize the FACTS, and that the UGA study is NOT flawed, vote YES on July 31 for our new city of Brookhaven.
Jeff Kellar May 16, 2012 at 04:01 AM
Thanks Tom. For the record, the Patch did not give me anyone's IP address, but merely commented verbally that several no city bloggers have the same IP address.
Jeff Kellar May 16, 2012 at 04:12 AM
So, Mr. HamBurger, you admit to improperly posting under false names, which have been suspended by the Patch.... Also, you never did answer my question from last month about whether or not you are employed by the County, by a vendor of the county, by the opposition as a political consultant, or receive any financial benefit from the county and/or city opposition organizations... Why do you not answer the question? Why do you not post under your real name, reveal your occupation and whether or not you have financial ties to the county or opposition organizations? HamBurger 6:05 pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 I post as myself and last weekend I assumed the alter ego of J. Max Davis as a retaliatory measure…. the Patch does seem to have preference as to how they handle their TOS as my fake J. Jeff Kellar, Don't be so angry fella. Even though your city hood proposition is losing more and more ground every day, you stood up and fought for something you felt was good for you. Golf claps to you Jeff. I know it must be embarrassing though. Now go to nocitybrookhaven.com and request a sign and a bumper sticker. You'll be glad you did! Really. Turn that frown upside down! XOXOXO ;^}

Mr. Keller, I am a private citizen living in the proposed city with no connection to DeKalb County. I have no problem telling you that I post under one name until last weekend when I assumed J. Max Davis’s alter ego. An analysis of posts under several names pointed a finger of suspicion towards him. My identity will remain private. As for you, several times on the Patch and at least once in a letter to the Brookhaven Reporter you have stated specific services that the new city will provide. I asked you several times how you know what services the new city will provide: “Mr. Keller, how do you know this? From what I read in HB 636 services to be provided will be decided by the yet to be elected city officials. The Vinson study is not even mentioned in HB 636! Are you running for an elected position? Additionally, I read a lot about the ability of the new city to raise taxes and impose fees. I guess when the city finds out that the Vinson study is based on property values that have since dropped and are continuing to drop; we will see a request to adjust the millage rate almost immediately if the city vote passes. If a millage increase is voted down then we will see a host of fees being implemented for various things as allowed for in HB 636!” Your turn. Man, that morning charcoal burning in the crispness of the morning smells so good!

Actually cityhood movement outside of the self described ashford folks looks great! People understand keeping local dollars local makes sense. Sidewalks, zoning control, police control, code enforcement. Unless your a slum lord, pawn shop owner, flee market operator, illegal sign poster, non-walker, apartment city owner, code enforcement breaker, supporter of all south Dekalb legislatures and commmissioners, then the choice is actually really simple: cityhood or status quo!
Carl Childers May 16, 2012 at 01:49 PM
Great. Thank you for responding and for the clarification. I will be sure to report as I hope others will too when their name has been duplicated and "obfuscated."

And by the way since I am no Russell I hope Mr. Darnell pulls your false posts!!!

Forgot to mention: Dekla police indictments (AGAIN) SAD Dekalb Schools indictments (AGAIN) SAD Who's next? Keep Brookhaven legit and legal. Keep our dollars from south Dekalb coffers! Vote for the NEW CITY!
Mitchell Thomas May 16, 2012 at 02:54 PM
So many ips with so many familair faces! People who want to throw their money away to Stonecreat and Lithonia pleasse hang with Mr. childers and his posse! For me I prefer picket fences to chain link ones; Sidewalks and bike paths to unmaintained dirt trails; Paved smooth streets versus potholes galore! Proeprty value increase to delcines! Code enforcement to no enforcement. Elected officials and staff who abide by the laws to lawbreakers and theives! City-hood or just plain "hood" your chioce Brookhaven. Be smart with yoru tax dollars!

Mr. Jeff, you certainly like to pontificate, but clearly, you do not like to answer questions. Keep it up; it makes your motives for a new city all the more suspicious! May I have that yellow mustard again?
