County, commissioner said there is a lack of interest in the center from the community.

A group of citizens who have been requesting a meeting with DeKalb County officials about renovating the aren't having much success.

Two meetings have been scheduled and then cancelled with less than 24 hours notice by District 2 Commissioner Jeff Rader's office and the DeKalb Parks Recreation Department. The meetings were scheduled for Monday, May 21, and Thursday, May 31.

"It's just extremely frustrating," said Rob Turner, one of the local residents who is urging DeKalb County to renovate the facility. "From our conversations with the county, we still don't know what, if any, plans are in the works for the Briarwood Park and rec center."

Rader called Turner late Friday afternoon, a conversation that Turner called "productive.

"We had a good conversation," Turner said. "Basically, he said a lot of the stakeholders in the park and rec center aren't responding to the county's calls for input and participation. Without representatives from some of these neighborhood associations and groups, they really can't advance the ball."
