City Manager Helps Launch Graduate Program

Marie L. Garrett has begun teaching a class in public administration at Reinhardt University.

Brookhaven City Manager Marie L. Garrett is sharing her extensive knowledge of municipal government to students at Reinhardt University.

This week, Garrett began teaching a graduate level introductory class in public administration.

Reinhardt leadership asked Garrett to assist with the launch of its master in public administration program, which is in its first year.

Garrett brings more than 30 years of experience launching and running city governments, including working as a top-level administrator in Alpharetta, Canton, Johns Creek and now Brookhaven.

“I learned so much over the years and want to be able to give back,” she said. “This is such an exciting field and it’s always changing, especially with the number of new cities that have been created in recent years.”

Garrett also has advised other metro area cities on planning, development, public administration and budgeting. In addition, she has taught government courses at Georgia State University, and served on numerous boards and committees.

Garrett, of Alpharetta, has a master’s in public and urban affairs from Georgia State University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia.

This article was prepared by the city and edited for publication.
